thoughts and musings of resistencia

resistencia - not a tourist town.  but a chance indeed to see some of the locals go about their daily affairs.  said to be the sculpture capital of argentina, the number of sculptures is only equalled by the number of stray dogs and icecream shops.  as if to highlight the fact it is not a tourist town, not a single hostel can be found - only hotels or a camp site on the outskirts of town, am sure it's no surprise which way i went!

And so it was as i stopped to grab a pizza before heading to the bus station, that i met jorge, a 70 something retire and divorce of 2 years who was desperate to know why a backpacker (glorified a one as i might be) would find themselves in a place that is "not a tourist town".  so, despite my assertions that i couldn't speak spanish, we chatted and ate pizza together, and if my ears heard correct he'd lived in resistencia for some 20 odd years, taught at the local uni, has two kids, both in their 40's and long moved away.  seems my spanish is improving!

maybe a backpacker showing up will kick start a transition and the next time you go there it'll be a major tourist town.
