tikal, altitude diving and the fireworks cow

when we got the idea to dive at altitude in a volcanic lake, i thought this was going to be the highlight of the trip, and while sticking your hand into a hot fault line deep ion a volcanic lake is good fun (i recommend people should try it if they get the chance), it is nowhere near as exciting, dangerous or interesting as a fireworks cow. yes people, i can say now that ihave seen it all. and before all the hippies get worried, don´t worry, it wasn´t a real cow ... they use humans instead, so it´s all ok!

so whats all this about a fireworks cow? well, i´m not quite sure how one describes it, but picture a half drunk man, walking in the middle of the town at the local village fiesta with a cow shaped structure over him. attached to this structure is a metal frame that is full of spinning, flying fireworks that will take off in any direction at any person at any time (photos of this on colm´s blog). and just when you thought it was safe for the stall owner to take off the covers on his goods and wears and that life would continue as usual .. another fireworks cow comes out!! yes, not one but two of these .. surely enough ... we asked our friendly stall owner how many more ... dos mas he says ... two more!! ¿por que quatro? ... why four? ¿no se? ... who knows!!

the guy standing next to us got his shirt burnt for his troubles, and the four of us couldn´t stop laughing for about an hour after! it was certainly on of the strangest things i have ever seen.

on tikal ... it was amazing, if not exhausting. with two very very very early starts, a sensational sunset, a hippie getting kicked off a temple at sunrise and a tucan ... what mroe could a girl ask for!!

so, here we are two days left ... not long to go before you all get hauled to some pub to hear these stories again ... full reports will be requested from each you!! see you soon!!
